Arline “Kitty” Stegemeyer

DANVILLE — Arline “Kitty” Stegemeyer, 83, of Danville, passed away at 12:40 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, at the Hawthorne Inn of Danville.

She was born Sept. 23, 1929, to Frank and Rose (Bouchard) Miller in Sheboygan, Wis.

She married Gerald “Jerry” Stegemeyer on Oct. 4, 1947, in Sheboygan, Wis. He preceded her in death on Oct. 21, 1997. They were married for 50 years.

Arline is survived by her sons, Terry (Diane) Stegemeyer of Spring Lake, N.C., and Perry (Lucia) Stegemeyer of Danville; daughter, Sherry (Ed) Cole of Spring Hill, Tenn.; grandson, Andy Stegemeyer of Danville; and her brothers, Wayne (Elaine) Miller of Spaulding, Mich., Dennis (Patsy) Miller of Powers, Mich., and Wesley Miller of Escanaba, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald; granddaughter, Katherine; and one brother, Roger Miller.

After she moved to Danville, Arline worked for General Electric and Vermilion County Nursing Home. She later went on to retire after 24 years of service as a social worker from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, where she managed the Foster Care Program, a job that included screening and assessing potential foster and adoptive families, which helped to create loving families in Vermilion County.

Arline was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a long-standing member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Danville. Arline took great joy from the many friendships she formed while staying at Liberty Estates and Hawthorne Inn. She enjoyed listening to music, watching movies, going shopping and playing cards with friends. Above all else, she loved spending time with her family, especially her only grandson, Andy.

A celebration of Arline’s life will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, May 24, at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville, with Pastor Kent Tibbens officiating, and a private family burial at Danville National Cemetery at a later date. A visitation will begin an hour prior to services from 4-5 p.m. Friday at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, A Life Celebration Home, in Danville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Arline’s name to her beloved grandson, Andy, through the Andrew Stegemeyer Special Needs Trust for his continued care or the Trinity Lutheran Church of Danville.

Condolences may be left at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
