DANVILLE — Malon Nelson, 76, passed away peacefully on Feb. 24, 2013, at Presence Covenant Hospital, Urbana.

He was born April 19, 1936, in Como, Miss., to Malon and Henrietta (Dandridge) Nelson.

Malon was relocated to the Batestown area at age 4 and attended Danville schools.

In April 1959, he married Dora Jean Mabry in Westville, and she survives.

Also surviving is an aunt, Owen Nelson; a brother-in-law, John (Gayle) Mabry; and a special niece, Yolanda Mabry.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Julie Anne.

Malon served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Bradley Mayberry Post 736. Long hours were spent working in his yard and visiting outside with the neighbors during the warm months.

He loved attending the Nelson family reunions each year and traveling to far way places with his wife of 53 years.

Malon was a faithful member of Community Church of God and worked actively with their food pantry until poor health prevented his attendance.

He was a kind, caring and fun-loving friend to everyone.

A memorial service will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Community Church of God. Officiating: pastors Jeremy Zerkle and Corey Stocksdale.

The family requests that a good deed be done in Malon’s memory.
