---- — Terry L. Dazey, 74, of Lake Forest, Calif., passed away peacefully at home Thursday, Nov. 21, 2013, surrounded by loving family and friends..

He was born Feb. 8, 1939, in Champaign, Ill., to Raymond G. and Lois H Morgan Dazey and was raised in Danville, Ill.

After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education from Eastern Illinois University in 1961, he married Laura Bellaver. They were married for 47 years before her passing in 2008.

Terry taught industrial arts for two years in Danville and relocated to California in 1963. He continued to teach woodshop and began a counseling career in the Anaheim School District. After receiving his master’s degree from Cal State Long Beach, he moved on and taught and was principal at Joplin Boys Ranch with the Orange County Youth Probation Department. For 10 years Terry was dean of students at El Toro High School, finishing his career as a teacher at Silverado High School in 1998.

Terry was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Laguna Woods. He was on the board of the Saddleback Valley YMCA in the 1970s and enjoyed Indian Guides and even spent time as Tribal Chief. Recently. he volunteered at Vocational Visions and South County Outreach.

After retiring, he had a second career as the local handyman and was on the architectural committee for the Lake Forest Beach and Tennis Club. His hobbies included fishing, tinkering, woodworking, going to the horse races, trips to Las Vegas and spending time at the family cabin. He especially enjoyed time with his family and friends. Terry was, above all, known for his sense of humor and the ability to laugh at himself. He was always surrounded by family and many, many friends.

He is survived by his children, Carrie Musetti (Ed) of Brisbane, Australia, Kevin Dazey (Cindee) of Oceanside, Calif., and Craig Dazey (Charlene) of Lake Forest, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Nicholas, Eric and Tony Musetti, Katee, Taylor and Cole Dazey, Shellbee McIntosh and Christopher Sippie; his sister, Tamara Baloun (Mike); sister-in-law, Pauline Dazey; and good friend, Barbara Kimmel-Palmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura; his parents, Raymond and Lois Dazey; brother, Jan Dazey; and granddaughter, Courtnee Dazey.

A Celebration of Terry’s life will begin at noon PST Thursday, Dec. 5, at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 24231 El Toro Road, Laguna Woods, CA 92637.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Terry’s name.
