Fern Saikley Hasson

Fern Saikley Hasson, 89, of Danville, passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Provena USMC.

She was born March 2, 1920, in Streator, Ill., to Chas and Bessie (Roderick) Carter.

She worked at Malone’s Café, Hasson’s Grocery, Zayres and Holiday Inn among others, and retired from Rhodes-Burford Furniture.

Fern loved dancing at Danville Elks, Harrison Park Seniors, Westville Legion and also while traveling extensively through the United States.

PBS’ “Lawrence Welk” was her not-to-be-missed TV program.

Fern first married Sol Saikley of Arlington, Texas, then Bill Hasson Jr. in Danville. Her companion of 46 years, Ken Abbott, passed away in 2006. She also was preceded in death by her parents; her grandson, Jeff Saikley; her son, Jerry Saikley; and all of her brothers and sisters.

She is survived by son Bill “Sarj” Hasson 3rd of Danville; her special granddaughter, Terri (Floyd) Reed of Bismarck; and grandchildren, Jeanine Keller of Watseka, Jerry (Cheryl) Saikley Jr. of Temple, Texas, Judy (Randy) Garrett Wilmington, N.C., and Janet (Charles) Young of Deville, La.; 13 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and her daughter-in-law, Sandra (Pease) Saikley of Wilmington, N.C..

As per Fern’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service.
