Sonia (Tilton) Snapp

Sonia (Tilton) Snapp, 86, of Danville, passed away at 8:36 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at the Hawthorne Inn of Danville. Sonia was born on April 1, 1923, in Danville, the daughter of Sam R. and Pearl A. (Keller) Tilton. She married George A. Snapp. He preceded her in death after World War II in 1945.

Survivors include one daughter, Georgeann (Dr. C. Edward) Miller of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Melissa Procter of Calif., and Eric E. Miller of Ariz.; two great-grandchildren; and special friends, Martha Stine, Marty Watters, Marilyn Tatar, Jeff Cook, Joanie Huffman and Cliff Alexander.

Sonia graduated from Danville High School. She was a graduate of the University of Illinois, where she earned a master’s of education degree plus six years and one advanced certificate of supervision. She was a teacher and principal for Danville School District 118, serving at Fairchild, Daniel, Oaklawn and Douglas schools. She attended St James United Methodist Church. Sonia was a member of the Illinois and National Education Associations and University of Illinois Alumni and Gold Star Wives.

Per Sonia’s wishes, cremation will be accorded. Burial will be at Oakridge Cemetery, in Catlin, with private graveside services at a later date. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation center in charge of arrangements. E-mail condolences may be sent to the family at www.sunsetfuneralhome.com.
