Sam Palmer, 81, of Danville, died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, at Department of Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System.
A time of remembrance of his life and funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22 at Pape Memorial Home and Cremation Gardens, 10 E. Williams, Danville, IL 61832 with Chaplin Terry Langford officiating. A gathering of friends and visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. with Anchor 980 Masonic services at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pape’s.
Memorials may be made to the Gao Grotto, 2400 Denmark Road, Danville IL 61832. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.
Sam was born Jan. 24, 1925, in Danville, to Samuel Hamilton Jr. and Ruby Della Nagle Palmer. He attended Diamond Grade School before enlisting with the U.S. Marines during World War II. He had been a warehouse foreman with Ralph Lauten, Triangle Roofing and Bi-State Supply. He was a member of Anchor Masonic Lodge 980, Scottish Rite Bodies, Ansar Shrine, Gao Grotto and Westville American Legion Post 51. He loved his garage and his trains and especially his family.
Sam married Betty Lou Felgenhauer on Nov. 9, 1946, at the Danville home of his sister: Bernice Hines. He is survived by his wife: Betty; two sons: Sam (Marian) Palmer Jr. and David Palmer, both of Danville, four grandchildren: Brondon Palmer of Florida, Karie (James) Reisinger of Westville, Jackie Randolph of Danville and Samie (Jason) Drown of Fort Campbell, Ky.; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister: Bernice Hines of Danville. He was preceded by his parents, two brothers: Leo Palmer and Marylon Palmer, two sisters: Charlotte Rattonetti and Ellen Sydes.
