J.L. 'Buddy' Lovett
J.L. “Buddy” Lovett, 60, of Danville, passed away at 5:14 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008 at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.
Buddy was born April 2, 1948, in Lumberton, N.C., the son of James LaDon and Dorothy (Cox) Lovett. He married Dorothy “Dottie” Johnson on Nov. 24, 1978, in Danville. She survives.
He is also survived by his two sons, James and Matthew Lesly of Texas; one daughter, Angilea Wyrick of Texas; three brothers, Timmie Wayne (Paulette) Lovett of Lumberton, N.C., Danny Ray (Janice) Lovett of Mattoon, Ill, and Bill Michael of Nebraska.; three sisters, Shirley (W.K.) Lewis of Supply, N.C., Julie (Bruce) Majors of Danville, and Tammy Lee (Brad) Salck of Nebraska; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Martin Edward Lovett; and one sister, Linda Carol Lovett.
Buddy served in the United States Marine Corps and the Job Corps. He started working at General Motors in Danville in 1969 and later transferred to Shreveport, La., and continued working for G.M., retiring in 2003. Following retirement he worked at Wal-Mart in Shallotte, N.C.
He was a member and deacon of the Greater Vision Fellowship Church in Danville. Buddy loved God and wanted to see everybody saved and he loved to spend his time fishing. In the past few years, he has enjoyed spending his time painting. He loved his family very much and he enjoyed helping out with the homeless when they were in need.
A Celebration of the Life of J.L. “Buddy” Lovett will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Abundant Life Tabernacle Church, with Pastor Rick Lomax officiating. Visitation will be at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center from 5-8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park at a later date.
