Virginia G. Jackson, 88, of Danville, passed away at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville. She was born March 17, 1920 in Shepardsville, Ind., the daughter of Everett Charles and Clossie (Grimes) Kiger. Virginia married Leroy Gentry Nov. 7, 1942, in Long Beach, Miss. He preceded her in death Dec. 20, 1964. She married Dalton “Diz” Jackson Aug. 19, 1992, in Danville. He preceded her in death Oct. 14, 1998. Virginia is survived by two daughters: Karen (James) Bilstad of Danville and Linda (Don) Snider of Danville; one sister: Madeline Jackson of Cayuga, Ind.; five grandchildren: Kim (Tony) Frye, Kelli (Todd) Cox, Justin Cline, Chad Edwards and Darren (Lhonda) Edwards, one stepgrandson: Jason (Jenon) Bilstad; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two brothers: Howard and James Kiger; and two sisters: Doris Byers and Dorene Weir.
Virginia graduated from Kingman (Ind.) High School. Later on in life, she graduated from nursing school.
She worked at Lakeview Hospital for five years she then worked for fifteen years at the VA Hospital in Danville until her retirement in 1985.
Virginia loved spending time with her family and cooking for them, especially baking pies. She enjoyed playing the piano. Virginia was a lifelong caregiver who tended to the needs of others before herself.
She loved all her grandchildren very much.
She was a devoted member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Danville.
A celebration of the life of Virginia Jackson will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville with Pastors Jerry Short and Dave Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 25 at the funeral home.
