Betty J. Ingram

Betty J. Ingram, 84, of Chrisman, died at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.

She was born Jan. 16, 1924, in Dana, Ind., to Wilburn and Rebecca (Longfellow) Holling-sworth. She married Clair Donald Ingram Feb. 14, 1943, in Clinton, Ind.

Mrs. Ingram was a graduate of Newport High School. After 25 years of being the secretary at the John Deere dealership in Chrisman, she retired and enjoyed her life with her family and friends. After retirement she took the office of the township clerk for Ross Township and held that office for 15 years. She was a lifelong member of the Chrisman United Methodist Church. She was the mission coordinator for the United Methodist Women, membership coordinator and a member of the Prayer Shawl Missionary. She made many knitted shawls for them. She was also a very active member and held many offices in the Towne and Country Garden Club, Priscilla Club, Rebekah Lodge for more than 60 years, and Chrisman Nite Unit of Edgar County HCE for more than 60 years.

She was an avid reader, a wonderful cook, and loved to knit for all her family and friends. Everyone that knew Betty knew that she lived her life to the fullest. She worked to be the best at everything she did.

She never met a stranger and her joy for living was greeting them with a warm and loving touch with her hello and smile. She was truly a special gift to everyone that was ever touched by her. God gave her a special gift to love her family and all her friends.

Mrs. Ingram is survived by three children: Vicki (Dave) Boyer of Springfield and Trudi (George) Brinkley of Chrisman and Kevin (Kara) Ingram of Chrisman; one sister, Mildred Hurt of Crawfordsville, Ind.; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, and five sisters.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, at the Chrisman United Methodist Church with Pastor Terri Shane officiating. Interment will follow in the Bono Cemetery, Dana, Ind.; Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 24 at the Chrisman United Methodist Church. Krabel Funeral Home of Chrisman is handling the arrangements. For those who wish, memorials may be made to the Chrisman United Methodist Church or the Chrisman Public Library c/o the funeral home.
