Don C. Koenig
Don C. Koenig, 82, of Danville, died May 16, 2008, at the Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System in Danville.
He was born in Spencerville, Ohio, on Aug. 7, 1925. After graduating from Spencerville High School, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in both the European and Pacific theaters during World War II. He graduated from Coyne Electrical School, and worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber, St. Marys, Ohio; Ford Motor Company, Lima, Ohio; Hyster Co. and Rehab Products & Services, Danville. He was a former member of Kiwanis, a volunteer for Faith in Action, and a member and deacon emeritus of Central Christian Church, Danville.
He was the son of F. Gerald Koenig and Amy Koenig, who preceded him in death. He married Ruth Fissel on May 19, 1946; she survives. He is also survived by: two sons, Douglas (Rhonda) Koenig of Lebanon, Ohio, and John (Barbara) Koenig of Winter Park, Fla.; four grandchildren, Joshua Koenig of Kettering, Ohio, Benjamin (Rene’) Koenig of Holland, Mich., Christopher (Kisa) Koenig of Driggs, Idaho and Brett Koenig of Austin, Tex.; one great-grandson, Owen Matthew, Driggs, Idaho; two brothers, James G., Spencerville, Ohio, and Ted, Delphos, Ohio; two sisters, Gerry, Sun City, Ariz., and Janet Evans, Spencerville, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was an avid music collector and enjoyed recording and sharing music with friends. He also enjoyed international travel and working abroad. His children and grandchildren were among his greatest joys.
His body was donated to science. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, at Central Christian Church, Danville, with Rev. Deborah Owen and Rev. Garth Lehman officiating. Friends will be received from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Central Christian Church Foundation, Faith in Action or the Alzheimer’s Association.
