Walter Charles Boyd

Walter Charles Boyd, 82, passed away at 11:36 p.m., Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Vermilion Manor Nursing Home where he had care for a few weeks. He was born May 27, 1925, in Detroit, Mich., to Walter and Marguerite Foote Boyd, both deceased.
He resided in Danville for 82 years.
He will be dearly missed by: his wife of 42 years, Edith Clay Boyd; two daughters and sons-in-law: Barbara (Dennis) Clay Tucker of California and Sharon (David) Clay Gran of Virginia; one sister, Dorothy Pearson of Champaign; seven grandchildren: Heather (Greg) Tucker Dowell, Christopher Tucker, Shawna (Claudio) Tucker Pavia, all of California, and Ryan, Adam, Mark and Kyle Gran, all of Virginia, and four great-grandchildren: Tyler and Ashley Pavia and Nicholas and Kaeli Dowell, all of California. He also will be missed by several nieces and nephews and his dog Jazzie.
Walter worked as an electrician and retired after 19 years from Danville District 118. Prior to that, he worked at Allith Prouty for several years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Masons of Illinois Olive Branch #38 and Ameri-can Legion Post #210. Walter loved woodworking and has left several precious pieces for the family and church.
Barbara and Sharon were at a young age when their mother mar-ried Walter. He never thought of them as stepdaughters, but always as his own. From the time of his retirement Walter and Edith watched “Guiding Light” together. Edith had watched the show since the girls were small. Edith and Walter liked to watch the Chicago White Sox.
A celebration of Walter’s life will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams Street, Danville, IL 61832, with Pastor Richard Sullins officiating. The family will receive friends 5-7:30 p.m., Monday, May 12, 2008, at Pape’s, with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be at the Na-tional Cemetery in Danville, with Military Rites by the American Legion Post 210. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 1400 N. Vermilion Street, Danville, IL 61832, Vermilion Manor Nursing Home, 14792 Catlin-Tilton Road, Danville, IL 61832, or Provena United Cancer Center, 806 N. Logan, Danville, IL 61832.
