Charles 'Chuck' Willard McBride

Charles “Chuck” Willard McBride, 61, of Oakwood, went to be with his Heavenly Father, family and friends on May 7, 2008, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Chuck was born May 21, 1946, in Danville, the son of Homer and Helen McKee McBride.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his fiancé and best friend Cindy Elwell Jumps; his former wife, JoNita McBride, whom he married in 1968 in Texas; their two daughters Stephanie McBride and Christy (Brian) Tallman; special children J.R. (Shanon) Jumps and Shari Elmore; brother Tom (Kathy) McBride; sisters Shirley Vestal and Melinda Bruns; grandchildren Tony, Chelsi Jo, David, Stephen, Dalton, Jacob, Tyler, Trent, Michael, Katelyn, Christian, Andrew, John David, Carrie, Kelsie, Alexander and Jeryn; several nieces and nephews and his beloved pets Missy and Sassy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son and two sisters, Mary Miller and Patty Daugherty.

Chuck was a 1964 graduate of Westville High School. He served in the Vietnam War with the 25th Infantry Division, where he received several distinguished medals. He later graduated from Hunter Engineering School & Superior School of Auctioneering.

He managed Satterwhite General Tire from 1970 to 1980. Chuck opened McBride Auction in 1981 and operated it on Georgetown Road until 1986. He also owned the Olde Country Store in Westville from 1984 to1991. In 1991 he opened McBride Auction on Perrysville Road and operated it until 1994. He then relocated to Batestown Road, where he and Cindy operated Batestown Auction. Chuck was a licensed auctioneer in several states. For the past 12 years he traveled all over the U.S. doing auctions under the instruction and guidance of Charlie Sentman.

He was a member of: the Westville Church of Christ for a number of years; the Furtherlight Lodge 1130, being the past Master in 1976; Iris Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, being a two-time Worthy Patron, 1976-1980; Danville Consistory and the Moose Lodge #1001 in Danville, where he was a member, governor, administrator and most recently, Moose of the Year.

Chuck enjoyed playing poker and gin, fishing, camping, watching NASCAR and gardening. He also enjoyed cookouts with his family, and was always known to tell a good story.

A Celebration of Chuck’s Life will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at New Life Christian Center on Bowman Avenue, with Pastor Doug Knapp officiating. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m., Monday at Sunset Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 3940 N. Vermilion St. Danville, IL., with Rites held at 6:30 p.m. by the Masonic Lodge and 7 p.m. by the Loyal Order of the Moose.

Following the service on Tuesday, he will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Danville with Military Honors performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Memorials may be made to the family. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sunsetfuneral home.com
