DANVILLE – Work on a water main Tuesday has caused a precautionary boil water order for only customers in the affected area off Voorhees Street.

According to Aqua Illinois Area Manager Bob Ervin, the city’s contractor was working on the Voorhees Bridge project on Monday and was moving one of Aqua’s fire hydrants, which was in conflict with a city storm tile. Detour road work prior to the bridge replacement project has been occurring along Rogers and May streets.

While shutting down the water service to do the work, a water main break occurred there, according to Ervin.

Aqua scheduled the repair for Tuesday and the work was completed and the water was back on.

Ervin said customers in the affected area, including the humane society and Stoney’s restaurant, were notified in advance on Monday.

Customers in the affected area were notified of a precautionary boil water order for a minimum of 24 hours.
