New director takes over at Multi-Agency

HOOPESTON — Marcie Sheridan stepped into the role of Hoopeston Multi-Agency director effective on Tuesday, filling the shoes of Chalmers Flint who is retiring.

"The opportunity to become director of the Multi-Agency will keep me close to my family and community," Sheridan said.

Sheridan, the daughter of Randy and Linda Chesnut of Hoopeston, spent the last two years as executive director of the Kankakee County Center Against Sexual Assault (KC-CASA) in Kankakee, taking the reins at a time when the organization was in jeopardy of closing.

Under her management, the agency increased staff to 18 full- and part-time members with a financial reserve established and funding sources to help insure long term sustainability.

"While I truly loved what I was doing and enjoyed my time as director of KC-CASA," Sheridan said, "I wanted a position that kept me closer to home and allowed me to be a part of helping those in my hometown community."

Previous to her position with KC-CASA, Sheridan spent 10 years as the Iroquois County advocacy coordinator and legal medical advocate with Iroquois Sexual Assault Services (ISAS) in Watseka and two years as a child advocate at the YWCA Women’s Shelter in Danville. She also is involved in the CrossRoads Youth Center in Milford as treasurer and volunteer for the organization.

"I am extremely excited that we have someone who can fill my shoes that can handle it," Flint said.

Multi-Agency board member Dan Goodrum added, "Like a sigh of relief."

Sheridan has a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and a Master’s of Social Work from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. She has internships and other relevant work through the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence as policy intern and Big Brothers Big Sisters Youth Advocate in Springfield, UIUC Office of Women’s Programs graduate assistant in Champaign, and Women’s Center intern and SIUC Achieve Program tutor in Carbondale.
