Class of ’52 to host 60th



The junior high’s bands and choirs and the high school choir will perform.


Red Cross plans drive

The American Red Cross will host a blood drive from noon-6 p.m. today at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4826, Fourth Avenue and West Orange.


5K set to benefit Haiti

The second annual Dig Deeper 5K – Clean Water for Haiti will begin at 9 a.m. Oct. 13 at Kickapoo State Park.

The scenic paved course goes through woods and past fields and ponds. Registration forms are available at the Dig Deeper Facebook page. Prizes will be awarded to the top overall finishers as well as the age-bracket winners. Walkers are also welcome.

The Dig Deeper project is supported by local churches, runners and friends of Haiti. Financial accountability is provided by Community Church of God, 535 S. Bowman Ave. Each year, members take a missions trip to Haiti to help build facilities, provide medical clinics and more. To learn more, call coordinator Lisa Kelsey at

Benefit assists Lowe

Tammy Dodge has organized a bluegrass music benefit for Gale Lowe, of Fithian, who will have to undergo chemotherapy and radiation because of uterine cancer.

The event will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at The Landing at Kickapoo State Park.

Terry Bryant’s band will perform live, and there will be an open stage for anyone who would like to sing. There will be drawings, silent auction, cake walk, face painting, games for kids and more. Prizes include free dinners at local restaurants, gift certificates, cash prizes and more. Money goes toward medication and treatment for Lowe.


Author to sign new book

C.C. Wills is the author of a new book, “Shawnee: The Adventure Continues.” He will have a book signing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Westville Public Library, 233 S. State St.

The new book is a sequel to his first book, “Treasure in the Shawnee Hills.”
