DANVILLE — Danville High School students celebrated Homecoming Week with some rather interesting clothing choices on Wednesday. Plaid, stripes, polka dots, mismatched shoes and even fuzzy bright pink-and-purple leggings were fashionable during Crazy Day at the high school.

“It’s spirit week, so we’re supposed to dress up each day,” explained teaching assistant Ricky Hoskins, who was dressed in red plaid pants, yellow checkered shirt and plaid blazer topped with two ties: a lime green-and-purple bowtie as well as a Sesame Street regular tie.

Hoskins said he came up empty handed when he checked the local Goodwill store, so he just started grabbing clothes he already owned out of his closet Wednesday morning.

“That’s the whole idea; nothing matches,” he said. “I usually spend 30 minutes at night figuring out what I’m going to wear the next day, but not today.”

Sophomore Inaiya Wilson used the same philosophy when she selected her layered, mismatched ensemble.

“It was easy because I didn’t have to pick out what I wanted to wear the night before,” she said.

Seniors Halee Sloan and Jelani Day cracked up laughing at one another’s outfits because they took “crazy” to the extreme.

“It’s our last year (at high school),” Jelani said. “So we thought we would go all out.”

DHS students have been showing their school spirit all week, starting on Monday with the teens coming to school dressed as their favorite character.

The students “Dressed for Success” on Tuesday wearing their business attire, and Wednesday’s “Crazy Day” ended with the Girls Powderpuff games that evening.

Class Spirit Day is today with students and teachers encouraged to wear the following colors: orange for freshmen, green for sophomores, red for juniors and blue for seniors. Teachers will wear maroon.

A pep rally also is scheduled for this afternoon and includes the introduction of the Homecoming Court.

The Homecoming game versus Champaign Central begins at 7 p.m. Friday at Ned V. Whitesell Field. The “Out of This World” theme Homecoming dance is set for 8-11 p.m. in the DHS Field House. The cost is $15 for singles and $25 for couples.
