Cellular One donates nearly $100,000 to local organizations

DANVILLE — Cellular One of East Central Illinois brought Jase and Si Robertson, stars of A&E’s hit reality show “Duck Dynasty,” for two benefit appearances in Danville during the weekend.

The initial blocks of tickets for both shows were nearly sold out by Friday morning. The David S. Palmer Arena was set to accommodate 3,600 per show.

At the events, Jase Robertson talked about faith, family and ducks, which included duck call demonstrations and stories about their faith, family and business, followed by question-and-answer sessions with both Jase and Si.

On Saturday, Cellular One presented a check for $26,065 to the Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care’s Homeless Veterans Program to recognize Si Robertson’s often referenced military service during the Vietnam war and Cellular One’s continuing support of the local Homeless Veterans Program, according to a press release. The donation included $1,065 in proceeds from a recent bags tournament Cellular One hosted for the program and a $25,000 contribution from the company.

A $71,500 check in proceeds from the “Duck Dynasty” show will be presented by Cellular One to the Vermilion County Conservation District for the Kennekuk Environmental Education Center building fund today.

The center, which will serve thousands of area students with its outdoor school and other programs, is in the first phase of a three-phase building project, according to the release.

Additional funds will be raised for the Education Center from Jase and Si autographed signage and artwork by local speed painter John Jansky, available on eBay.

The Homeless Veterans Program will also receive the proceeds from a raffle for an autographed camouflage recliner donated by This Is It Furniture.

“Cellular One was so pleased with the response to this event and the funds we were able to raise for these great programs in our community,” said Cassy Carter, CEO/GM of Cellular One of East Central Illinois, in the release.

“As a family-owned, locally-operated company, we feel it is important to support the communities that support us.”

The most-watched series on A&E, “Duck Dynasty” features a Louisiana bayou family living the American dream as they operate a thriving business while staying true to their family values and lifestyle. Since the show’s premiere, the Robertsons have been busy being America’s favorite, bearded, camo-clad family.

Despite their modest lifestyle and homes in the backwoods, this close-knit family has made a fortune on duck calls by turning a backyard business into a multi-million dollar sporting empire.

Cellular One of East Central Illinois is the only wireless carrier based in and dedicated exclusively to providing nationwide cellular service for residents in Clark, Clay, Coles, Crawford, Cumberland, Douglas, Edgar, Jasper, Lawrence, Richland and Vermilion counties.
