Power outage problem identified

DANVILLE — A third power outage in the last five days affected yet again the same group of customers.

AmerenIP spokesman Leigh Morris said Tuesday’s outage was only for about a half hour, from about 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m., and affected 608 customers.

This is the same group of customers that lost power on Friday and Saturday for longer periods of time. As many as about 1,300 customers have been affected by the outages in the last few days.

Morris said the problem is with the Franklin Street substation.

“It’s a mechanical issue. We believe we’ve isolated it,” Morris said.

Morris said they didn’t know the cause of the problem initially. But because of the three power outages, they were able to narrow the problem down.

“The appropriate repairs will be made,” he said.

Another AmerenIP spokesperson Natalie Hemmer previously said a breaker in the substation has been tripping out indicating a problem on the line when there wasn’t.

“We’re in the business of providing electricity and natural gas. Our goal is to keep the gas on and lights flowing,” Morris said.

He said the outages are not something AmerenIP wants to happen.

AmerenIP apologizes for the inconvenience.
