Police investigate Saturday shooting

DANVILLE — A teenager was shot and injured in an apartment building incident Saturday night.

The shooting was reported just before 9:45 p.m. Saturday in an apartment at 814 E. South St.

Danville Police Deputy Director Doug Miller said a group of several individuals between 14 and 16 years old were outside the apartment building just prior to the shooting. It was unknown how long they were outside the building.

Witnesses told police two males who had been standing there walked away from the group up to Apartment 3A and knocked on the door.

Miller said one of the people inside opened the door and immediately recognized one of the two men was holding a gun.

The person quickly shut the door as the armed man fired several bullets into the apartment.

One bullet struck a 15-year-old Danville teenager in the leg. Miller confirmed the gunshot wound was non-life threatening. The teenager was taken to an Urbana hospital for treatment.

The armed suspect was described to police as a black male around 15 years old wearing a green hooded sweatshirt. The second suspect was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt with the drawstrings pulled tightly to hide his face.

Miller said police are looking for other witnesses and continuing to investigate the shooting incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Danville police at 431-2250 or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at 446-TIPS.
