Head Start sign-ups now

DANVILLE — The East Central Illinois Community Action Agency is accepting applications for Head Start — Birth to Five services for the 2013-2014 program year. Head Start is free to income-eligible families.

Applications will be taken from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the agency’s administration office, 56 N. Vermilion St., and at these other Head Start sites: Family and Community Development Center, 446-1800; Fair Oaks, 446-7739; and Roselawn, 442-2205.

CRIS hosts ‘Wake Up’

CRIS Healthy-Aging Center, 309 N. Franklin St., will sponsor a special “Wake Up to Good Health” at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Patrons can enjoy a full, nutritious cooked-to-order breakfast from 6:30-9:30 a.m. Price: $2.50. Attendees will get to meet with health care professionals from Provena United Samaritans Medical Center who will take blood pressures and help with questions on medications and nutrition.

Grotto to serve dinners

The Gao Grotto will serve meals from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday. Price: $6 per dinner.

Meal includes choice of hamburgers, chicken strips, beer-battered fish with fries, baked beans or coleslaw. Price: $6.

Café offers free meal

The Body and Soul Café will host a free meal from 6-7 p.m. today at Danville First Assembly of God, 428 N. Walnut St.

Doors open at 5:45. Enter on the west side of building through the gym.

Alumni move up meeting

The Lakeview nurses alumni meeting which was scheduled for April 8 has been changed to today. The meeting will be at noon at the Lakeview College of Nursing, 903 N. Logan Ave. All Lakeview graduates are invited.

The college will sponsor a luncheon, and a brief business meeting will follow. For more information, call 354-4630.

Civil War group meets

Tawne Hedges will be the featured speaker at the regular monthly meeting of the Ward Hill Lamon Civil War Roundtable. She will speak about cemetery stone restoration.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Danville Public Library. Members and the general public are invited to attend.
