Teen shot after leaving dance

DANVILLE — A teenager was shot and injured following an evening event on Griffin Street.

Danville police were called to the scene just before midnight Friday in the 800 block of North Griffin Street.

Deputy Director Doug Miller said a 15-year-old male was injured as a result of the shooting. He was taken to Provena United Samaritans Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound to the lower leg. It was a non-life threatening injury.

Miller said the teenager was leaving a dance at the Boys and Girls Club, 850 N. Griffin St., as part of a group of people when he heard three gunshots.

The 15-year-old — whose name was not released — fled the scene on foot along with several members of the group he was with. Miller said the teen ran some distance before realizing he had been shot. Rescue personnel were called at 11:57 p.m. Friday to the 800 block of North Griffin Street.

As of Saturday afternoon, police had no description of a suspect in the shooting. No one else was injured in the incident.

Anybody with information regarding the shooting is urged to contact the Danville Police Department at 431-2250 or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at 446-TIPS.

Also during the weekend, police were called to a report of a stabbing just after 1 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Delaware Street.

Miller said the victim, who was not identified, did not require treatment for his wounds. The incident remains under investigation.
