Indiana man killed in accident

HILLSBORO, Ind. — An Indiana man died during the weekend following a traffic accident in the southeast corner of Fountain County.

Duane R. Swisher, 55, was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Crawfordsville following the accident, which took place just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday on U.S. Route 341 near U.S. Route 32.

According to the Fountain County Sheriff’s Department, Swisher was riding his bicycle northbound on U.S. 341 about a mile south of U.S. 32 when the crash occurred.

Swisher was riding his bicycle when he was struck by a Jeep — also headed northbound. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.

Neither the name of the Jeep driver nor whether any traffic citations were issued was noted in a release issued Saturday night by the Fountain County Sheriff’s Department. No other information was made available Monday.

Swisher was a retired teacher and swim coach at Western Boone High School in Thorntown.
