Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup confirmed the deaths of two Vermilion County children involved in separate drowning incidents earlier this week.
Brysom Dillon, 3, of Danville, was pronounced dead at 5:13 p.m. Wednesday at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. An autopsy is being scheduled.
Also, Survella Chapman, 11, of Danville, was pronounced dead at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday also at Carle Foundation Hospital. An autopsy also is being scheduled in that case.
Dillon was discovered at the bottom of the family pool around 7:30 p.m. Monday along Hampton Road.
Chapman was pulled from the pool around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Women’s Shelter, 201 N. Hazel St.
Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said Wednesday both children had been listed in critical condition earlier Wednesday.
Thomason noted family members told police Chapman was not a swimmer. She was discovered by a male parent after they had split up to go through the appropriate male and female locker rooms at the facility.
The facility does not employ a lifeguard but signs around the pool area restrict anyone under the age of 18 from swimming without a guardian.
Dillon was found after he went outside following the evening meal. He was found at the bottom of the pool after another child asked about him.
The deaths are being investigated by the Champaign County Coroner’s Office and the Danville Police Department.
