Vermilion County board committee members approved more money for masonry work on the original Public Safety Building.
Members of the board’s finance and personnel committee voted on Monday to put another $77,250 toward the project.
Public Building Commission Director John Weaver said the project focuses brickwork and caulking on the three sides of the original PSB, including the east side of the building where bricks have expanded more than expected during the years as a result of heat.
The money will come from the $100,000 the county gives the Public Building Commission each year for capital improvements, according to Weaver. Protocol, however, dictates that he must receive permission from the county before spending it.
The project was originally passed in 2011. The $77,250 will be added to originally $50,000 put toward the project last year. The total was not enough to see the project all the way through.
Also at Monday’s meeting:
The construction project on the road connecting Illinois Route 1 and Catlin began in 2011. Doug Staske, county highway engineer, requested permission from board members to use the last $60,000 in funding the county originally received for the project.
The plan will implement a drainage system so the roadway will “have a longer life,” according to Gary Weinard, county board chairman.
Election commission director Barbara Dreher said her funds — $16,877 which must be spent by 2014 — come from the Help Americans Vote Act of 2002 and will go toward a new high-speed ballot reader for her office.
Auditor Linda Lucas Anstey, speaking for county clerk Lynn Foster, said there also are plans for the $27,603 approved for Foster’s office.
