DACC board OKs contract

Staff receives 3.25 percent increases

DANVILLE — The Danville Area Community College Board of Trustees ratified a new three-year contract for its certified staff at a special meeting on Wednesday.

The trustees met in closed session for 35 minutes before voting unanimously to ratify the new agreement that will provide certified staff with a 3.25 percent base salary increase for each of the three years.

In addition, certified employees will receive a one-time payment that will not be added to the base salary, which will average $500 per member.

The new agreement also includes a move from four available health plan options to three options and provides for language clarification.

The current five-year contract for classified staff is set to expire June 30. The new contract covers 63 employees, including building service attendants, maintenance workers and office specialists.

In a joint statement with DACC Board of Trustees, Darrin Haynes, president of DACC-Classified Staff Association, IEA-NEA, said, “We used interest-based bargaining to work out a fair and equitable contract. Our team, who worked very hard on it, appreciates the board for ratifying this contract. We know the economic times are tough, but feel this is a fair contract. Once again, we thank Dr. Jacobs, the administrative bargaining team and the board.”

DACC President Alice Marie Jacobs praised DACC’s classified staff members for their commitment to the college and its students.

“I wish to thank the union president and the bargaining team for their willingness to participate in interest-based bargaining and the open discussions that the process afforded,” she said.

Trustee Vickie Miller told Haynes, “We’re pleased with how the negotiations went.”
