DANVILLE — A Chicago man was killed in the city’s fifth homicide of the 2013 year.
A man was reported down around 3:30 a.m. this morning in a grassy area along the 900 block of Belton Drive in the Fair Oaks Housing Complex, according to a press release issued by Danville police.
The man, according to police, was taken to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center by Medix Ambulance where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Deputy Director Doug Miller said the name of the Chicago man — who is 35 years old — was not being immediately released this morning pending notification of family members by the Vermilion County Coroner’s Office.
An autopsy is scheduled for later today.
Miller indicated it appears the shooting took place in the area where the body was found, according to the press release.
No other information was being released as of noon today.
Officials are asking anyone with any information or knowledge of the incident to contact the Danville Police Department Criminal Investigation at 217-431-2245 or Crime Stoppers at 446-TIPS.
