One person dead in Hoopeston shooting

HOOPESTON — Hoopeston police are investigating a fatal shooting downtown late Sunday night.

According to a press release issued by Hoopeston police, officers responded to a report of shots fired just minutes after 9 p.m. Sunday at the Downtown Motel, 200 E. Main St., Hoopeston.

There officers found the body of a 40-year-old man in one of the rooms. According to police, witnesses indicated potential suspects were seen fleeing the area on foot and then in a vehicle.

No other information is being released as of this morning, according to Hoopeston Police Chief Mark Drollinger.

The name of the victim has not been released. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call Hoopeston police at 283-5196. The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department is assisting in the investigation.
