The Champaign County Coroner’s Office has released the name of a pedestrian killed in a traffic accident Monday afternoon.
Coroner Duane Northrup identified the man as 53-year-old Scott R. Watson of Danville in a press release sent out Tuesday afternoon.
Watson was pronounced dead just after 3 p.m. Monday at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
Northrup indicated Watson’s death was as a result of injuries suffered in the accident and that an autopsy would not be conducted.
Danville police responded to a report of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle around 11:15 a.m. Monday on North Gilbert Street at the intersection with North Street.
Police arriving on-scene found Watson lying in North Gilbert Street. The driver of the vehicle that hit him was nearby.
According to police, Watson was walking west to east across North Gilbert Street when the accident occurred. He entered traffic against the walk light and while southbound traffic had the green light.
He was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital by Medix Ambulance. No tickets have been issued.
