Veedersburg council hears about pool pump repairs

VEEDERSBURG, Ind. — Town council members heard Tuesday from street and water Superintendent Paul Keeling that one of the town pool’s new pumps was repaired at a cost of $740. Bodine Electric of Danville repaired the motor, but was unable to figure out what caused it to fail.

Town officials purchased two 3-horsepower Pentair Whisperflo pumps in March from In The Swim, an Internet company based in West Chicago. Keeling said the pump cost about $900.

Council President Ken Smith said the town will be contacting In The Swim about the pumps.

The pool also has a problem with the main drain located under the pool. Keeling explained there is no water loss, but air bubbles are being sucked into the pump. Keeling thinks the problem might stem from 2-inch flexible tubing used in place of rigid tubing. Council members to fix the problem after this year’s swimming season is done.

In other business, town council members:

Discussed what will be allowed and not allowed on the town’s website community events page. Council members agreed town-related, non-profit groups would be allowed to submit information. Stuart Welliver, town attorney, recommended the town have a form interested parties could fill out to have their information displayed on the community events page. The forms could then be submitted to the council for review and approval. The town council agreed to have Rahmtech create a community events page.

Introduced a new ordinance created by Welliever in regard to property fences. If the neighbors are agreeable, the fence can be placed on the property line, but if the neighbors do not agree, the fence must be at least 18 inches back from the property line.

Heard from Mike Booe that the next Redevelopment Commission meeting is July 1. They will discuss TIF district street paving work and the cost of lighting the new section of the town trail.

Approved Councilman Tim Shumaker’s suggestion of increasing the scout cabin’s rental fee from $25 a day to $50 a day. Shumaker explained the increase would help to pay for the cabin’s heating and cooling as well as its cleaning. Councilwoman Teresa Cooper agreed with Shumaker and suggested that having a refrigerator in the cabin also would be a good idea. The rental increase will not go into effect until Jan. 1.

What’s next

Veedersburg Town Council members will meet at 6 p.m. EDT July 9.
