DANVILLE — A gun went off during a robbery attempt on the city’s east side, injuring a local man during the weekend.
The incident was reported just before 3 p.m. Saturday in the 1200 block of Garden Drive, according to Danville police.
Deputy Director Doug Miller said the victim — a 22-year-old Danville man — told officers he was walking into a building along Garden Drive when he was followed by a man. Once inside the structure, the victim encountered four other men.
One suspect, a black male, approached the victim and produced a gun, demanding the victim’s money. The victim, Miller, said, grabbed the gun and began struggling with the suspect, eventually causing the gun to go off.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the hand and was taken to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center for treatment. The armed suspect and the other men present fled the scene, possibly getting into a sliver SUV.
Miller said the armed suspect is described as wearing a white shirt, shorts and having dreadlocks with blonde tips.
Danville police also investigated two incidents of shots being fired Monday in the area of Fair Oaks Housing Complex. Miller said no one was injured in either the first incident — reported around 4:45 p.m. at Wakley Drive and Clyman Court — or the second, which took place just after 11 p.m. in the 900 block of Moore Street.
