City council hears about downtown festival

DANVILLE — The Taste of Downtown Danville returns later this month with more food and arts and crafts vendors, music and children’s activities.

Downtown Danville Inc. executive director Dana Schaumburg’s downtown report at Tuesday night’s city council meeting highlighted the Taste of Downtown Danville scheduled for Sept. 27-29.

It will again feature a Kansas City Barbeque Society–sanctioned BBQ competition, with barbecue team competition set up beginning Thursday, Sept. 26 downtown.

According to a tentative schedule, on Friday, Sept. 27, there will be arts and craft vendors in Vendor Square next to the Fischer Theatre, food sales, live music, Peer Court-sponsored children’s activities and American Legion Riders’ Motorcycle Show, as the BBQ team competition setup continues.

“We have a full slate of new food vendors,” Schaumburg said.

On Saturday, Sept. 28, there will be the Downtown Danville Farmers’ Market, 5K run/walk, the BBQ competition, arts and crafts vendors, food sales, beer and wine tastings and bands performing live music. There also will be the Vermilion County Crimestoppers Car Show, children’s activities and the barbecue competition awards ceremony.

On Sunday, Sept. 29, there will be food and arts and crafts vendors and children’s activities in addition to a community church service and gospel music.
