---- — DANVILLE — The Boys & Girls Club of Danville/Mervis Unit has a unique opportunity during the next six to nine months to receive funds through a matching grant with the Boys & Girls Club of America.

It is a one-time grant that will match each donation dollar for dollar up to $25,000, in essence doubling the private donation, according to club executive director Rob Gifford.

Any funds received through donations from private individuals or companies, corporations, churches or other sources, are greatly appreciated, he added in a press release.

The Boys & Girls Club of Danville can receive the grant money from the BGCA in three payments as the donations reach each of the three levels set within the grant or sooner if the club reaches the grant maximum allowed before the time period allotted.

“This opportunity along with the important partnership with United Way, who is starting their community campaign in September, will allow the Boys & Girls Club to continue to move in a positive direction forward, to meet our mission of inspiring and enabling all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring and responsible citizens,” Gifford said through a press release.

“As a community not-for profit organization that provides services for youth ages 6-18, we rely heavily on the individual giving and support of the wonderful people of our society. The cost to provide programming for one member for the whole year is $1,300,” Gifford said.

“I believe that the critical services that we provide our youth members, Education and Career Development, Character and Leadership Development, Health and Life Skills, Sports/Fitness/Recreation and the Arts, are paramount to enhancing their lives in a positive way and therefore impact our community as a whole. We continue to provide a safe place to learn and grow, all the while having fun, through ongoing relationships with caring, adult professionals who build hope and opportunity as well as instill a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence.” Gifford said.
