---- — DANVILLE — City firefighters handled back-to-back fires Monday morning along Martin Street.

The fire department started by responding to a fire call just minutes before 2 a.m. Monday at 1202 Martin St. Assistant Chief Duane Hall said the fire — located on the front porch of the home — caused about $1,000 damage.

Firefighters were leaving the scene of that fire around 2:30 a.m. Monday when they encountered a second fire, this one at 1116 Martin St.

Hall said the working fire was discovered at the rear of a garage at the address. Early estimates assessed damages to the structure at $10,000.

Hall said a cause for both of the fires remains under investigation.
