COVINGTON, Ind. — City council members heard Monday from Amy Wright, the Covington Fourth of July Celebration pageant director, who said Adison Nicole Smith won the Indiana State Festival pageant Nov. in Indianapolis.
Wright explained that “this is the first year the Covington Celebration participated in the state pageant.” The pageant is open to any Indiana festival pageant winners of festivals registered with the Indiana State Festival Association. Smith was the 2013 Covington Fourth of July Queen. Wright added that Adison was the youngest contestant in the pageant at 17. Smith will spend the next year traveling throughout Indiana promoting Indiana fairs and festivals.
In other business, city council members:
Heard from Wright that Apple Fest will again be staged in September on Sept. 27, 2014. Wright said the Covington Business Association received a lot of positive feedback about the switch to a September festival date this past year.
Passed Ordinance 2013-10 in a 3-0 motion. The ordinance essentially makes it legal for the city to shut off a customer’s electric utility, if the resident does not do not pay utility bills after an extended period of time.
Granted permission to Tri Kappa to stage a circus in the city park on May 12, 2014.
Learned residents can leave any tree limbs or debris from the recent wind storm by the street and the city will pick it up. Council members agreed Covington was lucky in regard to the storm that went through the state on Sunday.
Council members will next meet at 7 p.m. EST Dec. 2.
