Marketing events encourage mall shopping

DANVILLE — The Village Mall is again decked out in its finest for the holiday season, with Santa soon to be taking center stage.

Jean Ramirez, vice president of retail operations with B&G; Property Management of Holland, Mich., said there are several new marketing events planned during the next two months to encourage people to shop at the mall.

The largely known difference in men’s and women’s shopping habits, with women often shopping early and men often waiting until the last minute to shop, was seen with a promotion that started with a Girl’s Night Out last week and will conclude with a Guy’s Night out on Dec. 16.

Mall administrative assistant Cindy Compton explained that women who participated filled out their own gift registry or wish list of items from mall stores.

The lists then will be made available to their guys on Guy’s Night Out. There also are sales, door prizes and free gift wrap on the Guy’s Night Out.

Compton said to make it even more enticing for guys to participate and get them to enter more than just one store, they can make a poker hand by getting a card at each store they visit. The best hand will win a gift package.

Other holiday promotions include free gift wrapping weekends when you present Village Mall store receipts. The mall will make a donation to each organization wrapping presents.

Dates and groups:

-- Nov. 29-30, Holy Family Young Adults.

-- Dec. 6-7, Georgetown cheerleaders.

-- Dec. 13-14, Danville High School AVID students.

-- Dec. 20-21, St. Anthony’s Youth Group.

“This is a little savings to people with the cost of (wrapping) paper,” Compton said. “We’re going to have some really cute paper.”

Compton added that there are pictures available with the train today, Santa arrives Friday and customers who spend $50 or more at any Village Mall store Nov. 28-30 can receive a free poinsettia from Danville Gardens.
