DANVILLE — A Georgetown man arrested on armed robbery charges in January was sentenced Monday to prison.
Brandon Karaszkiewicz, 19, of rural Georgetown, received a sentence of 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in Vermilion County Circuit Court.
Karaszkiewicz was one of three people arrested following a Jan. 13 armed robbery of the Village Pantry. The suspects — Karaszkiewicz, 18-year-old Dillon Cagle and a 17-year-old juvenile — held the store clerk at knife-point and robbed the store of cash and a large amount of cigarettes.
The three fled in a vehicle, leading Georgetown police on a chase into Indiana along Route 63 where it ended near Newport, Ind. Karaszkiewicz jumped from the moving vehicle, but was arrested two hours later at his residence in rural Georgetown.
Karaszkiewicz and Cagle were scheduled for jury trials Monday. The case against Cagle was continued until August on a motion by defense attorneys.
