DANVILLE — Two Vermilion County school districts are receiving state funds to improve security.
The Georgetown-Ridge Farm and Oakwood school districts were among 448 public elementary and secondary school districts, community colleges and state universities in Illinois to receive funds through the Illinois School and Campus Safety Grant Program.
Georgetown-Ridge Farm will receive $28,714 for three safety projects in the district while Oakwood will receive $25,000 for one safety project.
The Illinois Emergency Management Agency announced the money awards will go toward various projects for the school facilities, ranging from reinforced doors, shatter-resistant glass, physical locks and other security measures that will enhance safety for students, staff and visitors.
Overall, $25 million was awarded for more than 1,300 projects.
