DANVILLE — No new details are being released regarding last week’s triple shooting incident in Danville.
Three people were injured Friday night by bullets around 6:30 p.m. in the 1000 block of Moore Street. Police called to the scene found the victims — two 19-year-old males and a 33-year-old female — each suffering from gunshot wounds.
Sgt. Joshua Campbell said Monday afternoon the investigation is ongoing, but just one arrest has been made in connection with the case.
Cordario Townsend, 25, of the 1200 block of Garden Drive was arrested late Friday night in relation to the shooting incident. Townsend was taken into custody shortly after 10 p.m. Friday and booked at the Vermilion County Public Safety Building jail around 1:20 a.m. Saturday.
Townsend made his first court appearance via video feed Monday afternoon. Two counts of aggravated battery with a firearm were filed by the Vermilion County State’s Attorney’s Office. Bond for the case is set at $100,000.
Aggravated battery with a firearm is a Class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Witnesses informed police that a group of people was walking down Moore Street — apparently videotaping — when the shooting took place. Shots were fired when a verbal altercation erupted between the group and people nearby, according to police.
One of the 19-year-old males suffered a wound to the chest as a result of the shots fired. He was taken to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center and then transferred to an Urbana hospital for treatment where he was in stable condition during the weekend.
The other two gunshot victims were treated and released.
Police have not released the names of those who were wounded.
Anyone with information regarding the triple shooting is asked to contact Danville police or call Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at 446-TIPS.
