DANVILLE — Police have made one arrest in connection with a triple shooting incident Friday night on the city’s east side.
Police and emergency personnel responded around 6:30 p.m. Friday to the 1000 block of Moore Street to reports of shots fire. There, officers found three gunshot victims — two 19-year-old males and a 33-year-old female.
On Saturday, Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason confirmed one suspect — Cordario Townsend, 25, of the 1200 block of Garden Drive — was arrested Friday night in relation to the shooting incident. Townsend was taken into custody shortly after 10 p.m. Friday and booked at the Public Safety Building jail around 1:20 a.m. Saturday on charges of aggravated battery with a firearm and disorderly conduct. Bond had not been set in the case, according to jail reports.
Thomason, in a press release issued Friday, said witnesses informed police that a group of people were walking down Moore Street — apparently videotaping — when the shooting took place.
Shots were fired when a verbal altercation erupted between the group and people nearby. Thomason specifically did not indicate if the altercation was with the three individuals who suffered gunshot wounds.
No details were given as far the why the group was videotaping along Moore Street. Thomason said Saturday that police were still investigating the shooting and were seeking other suspects in connection with the shooting.
One of the 19-year-old males suffered a wound to the chest area as a result of the shots fired. He was taken to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center and then transferred to an Urbana hospital for treatment. Thomason said the male remained hospitalized Saturday in stable condition.
The other 19-year-old male and the 33-year-old female each suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. The male was treated and later released at the Urbana hospital. His wound was not considered life-threatening, according to Thomason’s release. The woman was treated and released at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center.
Anyone with information regarding the triple shooting is asked to contact Danville police or call Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at 446-TIPS.
