GEORGETOWN — The city might update its website as aldermen discussed including a new design in the upcoming budget Monday.

Alderman Adam Hart said the current design cannot be revised internally, which leads to outdated information being shown. He received a proposal from Miller Ad Group, their current provider, for a website update. They can choose from five designs for $500 and will be able to update it themselves. It will also include a calendar and email addresses for city personnel.

Currently, the mayor, police and aldermen use personal email addresses to conduct business, but the new website would allow for each to have a georgetownil.com address.

A finance committee meeting will be held Feb. 11 to start developing the new budget. Aldermen plan to look for ways to include the website upgrade in that budget plan.

Heard city employees worked to unplug a sewer line on Third Street for four days. The clog was caused by baby wipes and disposable baby diapers that were flushed.

Mayor Dennis Lucas said workers broke an expensive tool in the process of repairing the sewer line as well as the amount of man-hours that was spent on the problem. He advised residents to not flush these sorts of items, as the city’s older sewer lines cannot withstand it.

“It’s just costing the public more and more money,” Lucas said.
