DACC seeks student for board

DANVILLE — Danville Area Community College seeks a student to represent the student body for the next year on the college’s board of trustees.

Any student interested in serving on the board of trustees has until 4 p.m. Friday to file his or her petition.

Students will determine who the new student trustee will be when they cast their vote during a campus-wide student election from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 2-3, in the student union of Lincoln Hall.

The new student trustee will serve a one-year term beginning April 15. Neal Boyd now serves as DACC’s student member on the board of trustees.

The student trustee attends all of the board of trustees meetings, has a recorded advisory vote on college business and has the privilege of making or seconding motions.

“We encourage them to attend events like the other trustees,” said Kerri Thurman, administrative assistant to the president and secretary to the board of trustees.

The only eligibility requirement to run as a student trustee candidate in the election is that the DACC student carries a class load of 12 credit hours or more.

Candidates must collect a minimum of 50 signatures from full-time or part-time DACC students on a petition to be placed on the election ballot.

Petitions still are available in Vermilion Hall, Room 202, which is the office of the secretary to the board of trustees.

Thurman said the first day students could file petitions was on Monday.

“We’ve had one student pick up a petition and one student file a petition,” she said Wednesday.

Candidates must file their petition with Thurman, the board of trustees’ secretary, by 4 p.m. Friday, in Room 202 of Vermilion Hall.

The new student trustee will be installed at the board of trustees’ April 23 meeting.
