Childbirth classes set

DANVILLE — Presence United Samaritans Medical Center is offering breastfeeding and childbirth classes throughout the year for expectant parents.The class on the basics of breastfeeding is conducted by a certified lactation consultant. Classes are 7-9 p.m. the last Wednesday of every month, January through November. This class is free to mothers who deliver at Presence.

Childbirth education classes are offered as a two-part course over two consecutive Mondays. Participants should be enrolled by the fifth month of pregnancy to begin the course at 32-34 weeks gestation. Expecting parents will learn about breathing and pushing techniques, Caesarean sections, pain relief options during labor and delivery and will tour the Family Birthplace unit.

Classes are held on Monday evenings from 6-8:30 p.m. and are free to those who deliver at Presence. The dates for 2014 are: Jan. 13 and 20, March 10 and 17; May 12 and 19; July 14 and 21; Sept. 15 and 22; and Nov. 10 and 17.
