DANVILLE — Police investigators continue to look into the death of a 19-year-old man. He was discovered Sunday by a passerby on the city’s east side.

Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson identified the man as Scotty L. Polk, 19. of Danville.

According to Johnson, preliminary autopsy results reveals his cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds.

The person had been identified by city police only as a 19-year-old resident of Danville, according to a release issued late Sunday night by Danville Department of Public Safety Director Larry Thomason.

According to Thomason, a man was walking around 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of Lape Street and Fairweight Avenue when he heard a person groaning and discovered Polk lying on the street.

Polk was taken to Provena United Samaritans Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

On Sunday, Thomason indicated police and Medix personnel were uncertain as to the cause of the injury. Police were not releasing any further information as of Monday. No arrests had been made Monday in connection with the death.

The death remains under investigation by the Danville police and Johnson’s office.

Anyone with information is asked to call Danville police or Vermilion County Crime Stoppers at 446-TIPS (8477).
