DANVILLE — No arrests have been made in the shooting of a Danville man early Monday morning.
Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said Tuesday no new information was available with regard to the shooting, which took place around 3 a.m. Monday in the 1200 block of Marion Street.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup released the name of the victim late Monday night, identifying the man as 30-year-old Calvin R. Cowen of Danville.
The murder is the second of the year in Danville and the third in Vermilion County. The other two killings took place in March — the March 9 shooting death of Bruce Eldridge in downtown Hoopeston and the shooting of Demaree D. Tetter in the early morning hours of March 16 in the 700 block of North Vermilion Street.
Dejuan Alexander, 30, of Indianapolis has since been arrested and charged for the Tetter shooting. Investigations continue in the shooting death of Eldridge.
In the Marion Street incident, Cowen suffered a serious gunshot wound to the upper leg area and was pronounced dead around noon at an Urbana hospital.
Police responded to the residence in the 1200 block of Marion Street and found Cowen in a room of the home, lying next to the wall. He was not immediately responsive.
A woman also was in the house at the time of the shooting.
The woman told police that she and the male victim had been sleeping when she heard someone kick in the kitchen door of the home.
She awakened the male victim, who went to investigate.
The woman then heard a gunshot and found the male victim where police also discovered him.
Police detectives investigating the shooting did not have a chance to speak to Cowen before he died.
It did not initially appear than anything had been stolen from inside the home.
