DANVILLE — Investigations continue into an early Friday shooting that hospitalized two victims and injured a third.
Danville police responded to a report of shots fired around 12:30 a.m. Friday in the first block of Kentucky Avenue. At a home on that street, they discovered three gunshot victims: a 44-year-old male, a 46-year-old female and a 16-year-old male.
Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said late Friday afternoon that police detectives were continuing interviews with witnesses regarding the incident.
He said police were “following up on reasonable leads.” No arrests had been made.
Thomason also confirmed the 44-year-old and 16-year-old remain hospitalized at an Urbana hospital. The older victim suffered the more serious injuries and remained in critical but stable condition Friday afternoon. The 16-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was listed in stable condition, Thomason said.
The female was taken to Presence United Samaritans Medical Center where she was treated and released early Friday morning.
Preliminary information gathered from witness statements indicate the three people were on the porch of the home when it is believed they were approached and shot at by someone on foot, Thomason said, noting that police have received some conflicting witness accounts.
Officers responding to the scene found the 44-year-old man still on the porch. The other two victims were discovered inside the home.
No other specifics regarding the incident were immediately available.
A motive for the shooting has not been determined.
