HILLSDALE, Ind. — A Vermillion County man died Thursday night after his vehicle was struck by an oncoming train.
The Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department responded to the accident at 10:22 p.m. Thursday on County Road 600 South near Hillsdale.
According to the sheriff’s department, 74-year-old William Gilbert Sr. of Hillsdale was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told the sheriff’s department that Gilbert’s 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck was stuck on the railroad tracks and he was attempting to move it.
Gilbert, who was in the truck, attempted to exit the vehicle just prior to the collision.
No other injuries were reported.
