DANVILLE – A woman was hospitalized in fair condition Thursday morning after her car was rear-ended by a cattle truck on Interstate 74 just west of the US Route 150/Martin Luther King Drive exit.
A 2013 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Christi D. Kleiss, 50, was traveling east bound on I-74 about a half-mile from the US Route 150/Martin Luther King Drive exit shortly after 10 a.m. when an east bound cattle truck driven by 34-year-old Kyle D. Smith rear-ended Kleiss, according to the Illinois State Police. Police did not provide hometowns for either driver.
Kleiss steered to the right, but was struck by the trailer of the cattle truck, causing her car to leave the roadway to the right, spin into a ditch and come to a rest in the trees, police reported.
Kleiss was transported by Oakwood Ambulance to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana. Smith was uninjured. Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
No charges were issued pending an investigation by the state police.
