Hoopeston Area approves wrestling co-op with Milford

HOOPESTON — Hoopeston Area school board members voted unanimously Thursday to approve a wrestling co-op with Miford High School, even though Milford board members had to table the co-op vote until their next meeting.

"Milford’s board met (Wednesday), " said high school Principal Larry Maynard, "but didn’t have a full board."

He added several of the board members were on the Milford Fire Department and were aiding Hoopeston Fire Department in the containment of J & R Used Tire Service fire.

Also approved was the high school improvement plan, the prevailing wage resolution, naming Mark Eighner as school district treasurer for 2014 and hiring Better Paving to resurface the district parking lots at a cost not to exceed $24,824.

Board members approved $18,219 for the 2014 Migrant Program Application. John Greer Elementary School Principal Dan Walder said he anticipated this would be the last year for the program since there was a smaller group of students participating this year.

"It’s a grant," said Walder. "We may or may not be awarded it."

School board members accepted resignations of three school aides, Annette McMillan, Cayla Knight and Dawn Samet and the resignation of April Handy as high school co-student council sponsor effective May 2013. Also approved was the transfer of Rhonda Carter as middle school aide for the 2013-2014 school year, and the employment of Logan Patton as high school head wrestling and assistant football coach and Thomas Sage as high school assistant scholastic bowl coach.

What’s next

Hoopeston Area School Board members will meet at 6:30 p.m. July 18 in the high school library.
