Grand openings of two retailers, one coming to the mall and the other next to Kohl’s, were announced this week.
T.J. Maxx announced on its website the grand opening of its Danville store.
The grand opening will take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8.
Public relations officials said more information will be announced about two weeks before the grand opening.
Mayor Scott Eisenhauer also received an e-mail this week about Burlington’s grand opening.
Burlington’s grand opening is set for Oct. 11.
More signage has been going up as construction continues on T.J. Maxx’s building next to Kohl’s at 3689 N. Vermilion St.
According to Vermilion Advantage President and CEO Vicki Haugen, T.J. Maxx has representatives in Danville through today interviewing for key positions.
Interviews for various positions are being conducted from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at Danville Area Community College’s Bremer Center, according to DACC officials.
The 24,000-square-foot T.J. Maxx store originally was looking to open by May. It’s to receive five years of tax rebates under a redevelopment agreement that could be modified by mutual consent of the city and developer.
The agreement is with Continental Property, Inc., the Wisconsin developer for Kohl’s and T.J. Maxx, for $60,000 to be paid by the city to the developer annually during a five-year period.
The amount represents about 40 percent of the home rule sales tax the city will generate each of those years.
The payment will be made during any year T.J. Maxx or a replacement retailer is open for business for the year.
The T.J. Maxx development is a 10-year lease versus the Kohl’s ownership and build of its own building.
The T.J. Maxx building investment is being made by Continental Properties, the developer, except for the fixtures specific to the business, Haugen has said.
The investment for the store development is expected to be between $2 million and $2.5 million.
Haugen said the annual average of full-time equivalent employment would be 25-30 employees. Seasonal and part-time employment will increase the number.
T.J. Maxx has clothing for the whole family in addition to home and other items.
Construction also continues on Meijer which is scheduled to open the second week of November, and on the office building in front of T.J. Maxx that will house All About Eyes and Cellular One.
Burlington, which is getting away from being called Burlington Coat Factory and is going inside the Village Mall, also is seeking employees online.
The new 50,232 square foot store will bring about 45-50 new jobs to Danville and will be one of 28 Burlington locations in Illinois.
Burlington offers brand-name merchandise for the entire family and home.
