Danville District 118 school board members will meet in a special session Wednesday night to consider ratifying a new contract for the district’s teachers, teaching assistants, secretaries and learning resource clerks.
The Danville Education Association membership voted Thursday to ratify a new three-year contract by a 94 percent majority.
The new contract includes compensation for employees represented by the DEA, a longer school day and a change in the way employee health insurance is administered.
Superintendent Mark Denman said Friday, “We’re not making any comments on the specifics of the contract until the board has a chance to vote on it.”
DEA President Robin Twidwell did not return messages Thursday or Friday.
The DEA’s bargaining team reached a tentative agreement on the proposed contract with District 118’s negotiating team at the end of an 11-hour bargaining session on June 14.
A total of 449 certified employees and 206 non-certified employees have been working without a new contract since the last contract expired June 30, 2012.
Also on Wednesday, school board members will:
Consider a change in student and staff hours.
Review a first reading of job descriptions for instructional teaching assistant, special teaching assistant and CNA/LPN special teaching assistant.
Consider purchasing property at 310 Sidell St.
Denman said he will recommend that the district pay up to $2,000, which includes attorney fees and closing costs, to purchase the vacant house that is located south and across the street from Danville High School’s Wayland-Young Field.
District 118 school board members will meet in special session at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Jackson Building, 516 N. Jackson St.
